Good news is still rolling in from Motorsports 2010 for a worthy cause! It is with our sincerest gratitude that The RAACE Foundation thanks' Len Sammons Productions and The Checkered Flag Charity Auction which for the third straight year benefitted The RAACE Foundation. For well over 18 years, Checkered Flag Charity Auctions has been a part of this huge motorsports extravaganza raising money for worthy charities.
Donations to the 2010 auction to benefit The RAACE Foundation rose to over $6,000. The top dollar items include: an autographed & framed print of Mario, Michael and Marco Andretti with their race cars for $285. A 1/24th scale, 1968 Mercury Cyclone diecast racecar autographed by Bobby Allison and Holman Moody sold for $225.
Race used sheet metal is always a huge attraction at the show's auction and this year was marked by two exceptional pieces. Television Broadcast's of NASCAR racing still include Joey Lagano's wild ride at Dover in The #20 Home Depot car. The side of Joey's racecar that slid down the track in that wild flipping crash went for $210 it still had concrete dust on it! One of the other top dollar items in the race used sheet metal department was a nostalgic piece from Kevin Harvick racing. It was Tony Stewart's Old Spice car #33 from 2005 with actor Will Ferrell's picture on the rear quarter panel promoting the film Talladega Nights and yes this car's side was from the Talladega Busch Series race, it went for $150.
At a ceremony at Area Auto Racing News offices, members of the Checkered Flag Charity Auction Team made the donation of $6,188 to the RAACE Foundation's founder Kenneth Smith and Director of Development Brad Brickel. The RAACE Foundation raises awareness of child sexual abuse, and works closely with many local and national racing teams to advance their special message. We have been doing this for a long time and really enjoy working with TeamRAACE, they do a lot to save children and make racing a better place for families with the participation of their teams. As firemen by trade families and their children are very important to us, we have some great things planned for next years event Motorsports 2011 and look forward to helping RAACE continue to make a difference in the lives of children said Ron Hubscher of Checkered Flag Charities.
The Checkered Flag group raised the money at January's Motorsports 2010 show, at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa., through a fan-participation auction of auto racing-related items.
