Baltimore Mariners Rockin' The AIFA with The RAACE Foundation
By Brad Brickel Wed, May 5, 2010 08:57 PM CST
Mark your calendars: May 8th at 7:30PM!
To many fans and friends of The RAACE Foundation there has been a familiar logo in the end zone of The Baltimore Mariners this season. The RAACE Foundation became a chosen charity of The American Indoor Football Association back in January when the league decided to join TeamRAACE. At the same time Kenneth Smith Founder of The RAACE Foundation sat down with Mariners General Manager Greg Muggy Justice to discuss what they could do as an organization to join the fight against child sexual abuse.
Justice understood that what The RAACE Foundation is doing with their awareness campaign is the only way to stop this terrible epidemic. He also knew that his team and league had the power to put The RAACE Foundation in an arena that they had never been in before - professional football. Since its inception, The RAACE Foundation had operated throughout the world of motorsports to get their mission and vision out to the public.
It is the success and notoriety garnered by his brother and nephew that helped Kenneth see an opportunity to get his message to a huge audience. It was from this connection and insight that The RAACE Foundation was born.
Kenneth's brother Steve Smith Sr. totaled hundreds of wins and was honored with induction into the Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2000. Steve's son, Steve Smith Jr., better known as Stevie, followed in his father's impressive footsteps. At age 18 he was named the World of Outlaws series Rookie of the Year and since that time, over his nearly quarter century career, Stevie has racked up enough wins to put him on the top 10 wining list of all time on the World of Outlaws circuit. Between the two of them, the father and son duo have over three hundred feature wins and are considered legends in the sprint car racing community.
Back in September of 2009 Kenneth realized that if he every wanted to really make a difference in the lives of children and families that he had to take his message beyond that of motorsports. He wanted to build upon the successes that Steve & Stevie Smith and the over 47 different TeamRAACE race teams had achieved in raising awareness within motorsports and expand that to include all of ones interest and activities.
What Kenneth realized is that ones interests and/or activities function as a community, a forum, and a stage for The RAACE Foundation. That was when the new TeamRAACE program was born. The TeamRAACE program became the way to disseminate his mission and vision. Ones interests and activities have the unique ability to communicate a message within a gathering of people, even though that message is not the cause of the gathering. This makes TeamRAACE an unmatched community in which to raise awareness of child sexual abuse by circumventing many social taboos. It brings the issue into the light and says: Here is an important threat to our children, let's talk about it, while minimizing any sense of being pushy or intrusive, a perception that could be counterproductive. So, TeamRAACE expanded - with The AIFA being the first non-motorsports member. TeamRAACE includes all sports, businesses, organizations, professionals, ministries and individuals to help The RAACE Foundation prevent child sexual abuse simply by showing their support. TeamRAACE brings a team style atmosphere that gives everyone the tools to help The RAACE Foundation in its mission of child sexual abuse awareness.
This weekend, Saturday May 8th, the relationship between TeamRAACE and The AIFA takes another huge step forward when the Harrisburg Stampede host the first ever RAACE Foundation Night in the AIFA at The Harrisburg Farm Show Complex vs. the Erie Storm.
