By Brad Brickel Wed, May 26, 2010 01:10 AM CST
Bruce Buckwalter, Jr. and his BDB Graphics, TeamRAACE Midget racing team will donate winnings from five races this season
Forest Hill, MD - What started out as an idea to "Give Back" by The American Racing Drivers Club for The Race Against Abuse of Children Everywhere at their annual awards banquet back in November; has turned into a confirmation for TeamRAACE. Not only does Family of Drivers Member Dave Shirk run the purple and yellow colors of The RAACE Foundation in ARDC action, but several drivers have joined TeamRAACE to help forward their mission of stopping child sexual abuse through awareness and education.
Continuing this tremendous show of support for The RAACE Foundation on the track, Bruce Buckwalter, Jr. and his BDB Graphics, TeamRAACE Midget racing team will donate winnings from five races this season. Starting with The RAACE Foundation Night at Williams Grove Speedway back on April 31st, a percentage of his winnings from each ARDC Midget event during this five race span will be donated back to The RAACE Foundation.
Not counting rain outs, Bruce has an 8th place and 4th place finish so far. He is currently ranked third in point's just 39 out of first place and very excited about his prospects to raise more cash for this very worthy charity. "After my hard crash at The Chili Bowl, I have been pretty cautious out there, and that is no way to race - especially when you're trying to do some good. I have been nervous about running the cushion and worrying if the car would stick. Everything about that night in Tulsa had me second guessing. Not anymore! I had so much fun at Grandview - the car was so good, I could go anywhere I wanted on the track. The first time I banged into the cushion and it took off I was shouting in my helmet: "I'm Back" and I just had a blast! This is very exciting, my whole family and I can't wait to get back in the car at Penn Can and seeing what more I can do for The RAACE Foundation and TeamRAACE. I'd love to give them a win in this five race run and historically I have done pretty well up there."
The great three and four wide racing action intensifies at Penn Can Speedway on Friday, May 28th with the only 2010 appearance of the world famous American Racing Driver's Club Midgets. They will be joined at the Susquehanna County oval by the mighty modifeds, crate sportsman, street stocks, and four cylinders. Action gets started at this ultra fast three eighths mile oval with hot laps at 6:45 followed by the first qualifying heat race at 7:15. Penn Can Speedway is located on Route 171 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania just a short drive from both the Binghamton and Scranton areas. For more information please contact the speedway office at 570-585-9928 or visit them on the web at www.penncan.com. The final race of this five race run will be with the mighty USAC Wingless Sprints for Thunder On The Hill at Grandview Speedway during their annual trek to Central Pennsylvania. This Tuesday night, June 1st affair is probably the most anticipated sprint car race at Grandview every year. The second race was at Williams Grove on Saturday, May 8th where the feature event was rained out just as the race cars took to the track. That event will be made up on Saturday Night, July 10th when the ARDC Midgets return to Williams Grove Speedway. The ARDC organization is the longest running midget club in the United States. Stars from this wingless midget club have gone on to be legendary stars of the sport dating back to the fifties and sixties. One of those mentioned stars was an up and coming star from Nazareth, Pennsylvania by the name of Mario Andretti. Andretti went on to have a stellar career in motorsports winning the Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500, and Formula 1 Championship during his racing career.
Everyone at The RAACE Foundation wishes all of the TeamRAACE drivers running in the ARDC Midget series the best of luck this season and a heart felt thank you to the Buckwalter family in their show of support for TeamRAACE.
