Forest Hill, MD – TeamRAACE driver Mike Baker and his Baker Built Motorsports team out of Shannon, Illinois have made a huge splash in the world of off- road truck racing over the last three years. Mike has 2 wins and 11 top 5’s over his first 15 races in 2009 and 2010 racing in both the Traxxas -TORC Off-Road Series and the NORRS Off-Road Series.
Mike and his Baker Built Motorsports team have been racing both a Limited Pro-2 and Pro-Light truck for the 2011 season. On Saturday Night 8.13 at the Bark River, MI Traxxas TORC Series event Mike had a hard fought 10th place finish for the first round of off-road racing on the tight and aggressive course.
On Sunday 8.14 Mike was also running in a top ten position when he got a little too much air and buried the nose of his Baker Built Pro Light Truck. The impact sent him for a wild series of end over end flips off the course and into the infield early in the second lap and required medical attention. Mike was then removed from the vehicle by track safety workers and transported to an area hospital.
Fortunately Mike is ok, however it looks like Mike’s season is ending early this year. He has a fracture to the T12 vertebrae in his back and has just been fitted with a brace he has to wear for three months. He has a knee injury and a concussion. Baker Built Motorsports is looking at the positive side according to Mike’s wife Tanya Baker: “Other than that I guess we have a little more time to put truck back together for next year.”
Everyone at The RAACE Foundation and all of TeamRAACE wish Mike a quick, speedy and full recovery. Swedish immigrant Samuel Hubinette, now living in Newport Coast, Calif., won that race by holding off Andrew Caddell of Graham, Wash. Mike was credited with 15th place in the event.
