Forest Hill, MD – The 24 Hours of Daytona, currently known as the Rolex 24 is a 24-hour sports car endurance race held annually at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. It is run on a 3.56-mile combined road course, utilizing portions of the NASCAR tri-oval and an infield road course. Since its inception, it has been held the last weekend of January or first weekend of February, part of Daytona Speedweeks. It is the first major automobile race of the year in the United States and in 2012 it will include TeamRAACE!
The RAACE Foundation is pleased to announce that Alliance Autosport has joined TeamRAACE with their 2012 Rolex Daytona 24 Hour driver lineup. Scott Rettich, of Camden Ohio, will be making his fourth career Grand-Am Rolex GT start and his second Rolex Daytona 24 Hour start. Scott has won two SCCA National Championships and three SCCA Pro Racing Championships in the last two years and will be looking to perform well in his third Rolex GT start with Alliance Autosport. Joining Scott behind the wheel of the #12 Porsche GT3 Cup will be Matt Schneider, of Lexington Kentucky. The SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises race winner will be looking to build on the successful run he had co-driving with Scott in the last round of the 2011 Grand-Am Rolex GT Series at Mid-Ohio with Alliance Autosport.
TeamRAACE driver Darryl Shoff, of Reading Pennsylvania, will be making his Grand-Am Rolex GT Series debut. Darryl is a very experienced sports car racing driver, but he isn’t new to endurance racing, with a class win in the 12 Hours of Summit Point on his resume. Darryl is a regular in the American LeMans Series IMSA Lites competition. After a successful December Daytona test session with Alliance Autosport, Darryl will be a valuable addition behind the wheel. Joining Darryl behind the wheel of the Alliance Autosport Porsche will be Hal Prewitt, of Miami Florida. Hal has competed 13 times in 24 hour races around the world including two Rolex Daytona 24 Hour races. With a class win and multiple podium finishes in 24 hour races, Hal knows what it takes to compete successfully in endurance racing.
Rounding out the driver lineup will be Jon Miller, of Orlando Florida. Jon will be making his Rolex Daytona 24 Hour debut. Jon has finished on the podium multiple times in The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series GS class, winning at New Jersey Motorsports Park, and leading the GS field at Daytona. Jon has a huge amount of experience at Daytona competing in GS, ST, Spec Miata, and Spec Racer Ford just to name a few.
“We have a very strong driver lineup,” stated Alliance Autosport Team Manager Suren Tchobanian. “Each driver has competed successful in endurance races in the past and our drivers have accumulated many race wins and championships. I am very excited to have them be a part of our team for the 50th Anniversary! Coming off a successful Roar Before the 24 Test that saw us run consistent low 1:51’s in race trim on the final day of the test, I am confident that we have the car and the driver lineup to compete with the best!”
The RAACE Foundation would like to thank Alliance Autosport and their sponsors and supporters for being a part of the Rolex Daytona 24 Hour. “Without Alliance Autosport, PDI Communication Systems, Florida Citrus-Drink Florida Orange Juice, and Coastal Technical Services LLC., The RAACE Foundation will not be in this position. In order to make a difference in the silent epidemic of child abuse, The RAACE Foundation must be in the public eye. With the stickers on the car and logo’s on the team and the millions of TV viewers and hundreds of thousands of fans watching live, we will certainly achieve that. This came about very quickly – we are excited to see how the RAACE oval will look on such a beautiful race car! It will be new to all of us when we see it on SPEED TV.” said Executive Director Brad Brickel.
Alliance Autosport competes throughout North America at many major road racing venues. With multiple championships, including two SCCA National Championships and three SCCA Pro Racing Championships, the team has found success at each level it has competed. Currently the team is competing in SCCA National, SCCA Pro Racing, and Grand Am Rolex Series events.
